Steven Moffat’s priorities.

I am, by-and-large, a fan of Doctor Who under the rein of Steven Moffat. He brought a new sense of complexity and imagination into Who which I love, mostly because I was able to understand the story-lines. Series 5 is second only to Series 1 for my favourite NewWho series, it loses out because of that slightly crap Silurian story. Series 6 and 7 were okay. Not good by a long chalk, but acceptable for me. Then Series 8 came along and it felt like Moffat was distracted, giving us second-rate stories and turning The Doctor into a grumpy loner with a neurotic companion.

And speaking of grumpy loners with a neurotic best friend, Sherlock Holmes. Moffat’s other baby. This follows the same timeline as Who, the first two seasons were genius! Brilliant, inventive, imaginative, clever, superb actors. Then Moffat got cocky. Sherlock Series 3 was lame, and boring. Too many puerile gay jokes and up it’s own arse like you wouldn’t believe. Moffat took on both shows at once, trying to regenerate Doctor Who whilst impressing Sherlock’s sudden Tumblr audience wore him out.

I do feel for Moffat, he’s done a superb job so far. And with two children and a wife also working in tellyland it’s gotta be hard work. That’s why I implore Moffat, focus on one show. If he leaves Sherlock it won’t quite be the same, but Mark Gatiss knows the show and Sherlock’s history to carry it on to an acceptable level. If he leaves Who, there are countless potential showrunners (My choices btw are Neil Gaiman and Toby Whithouse).

Should Moffat ever see this, thank you. What you have done for British culture is indescribable. But please, one project at a time eh?

EDIT! IGNORE EVERYTHING I SAID IN THE ABOVE BLOG. BRINGING RIVER SONG INTO P-CAP’S DOCTOR WHO IS THE STUPIDEST IDEA EVER.
